Peer Mentor Job Description 

The College of Education’s Peer Mentor program is an academic year long program from the fall semester through the spring semester. Second year students and above from all COE programs are encouraged to participate. Each mentor will serve voluntarily as a role model assisting new students in making the transition to college life. A peer mentor provides leadership in assisting the college in achieving the goals of the program: to promote improvement of academic success and the successful completion of their program. 


  • 3.0 GPA
  • Student with 24 or more credit hours and has completed at least one semester at EKU
  • Recommendation from faculty/staff (at least one College of Education faculty reference)
  • Interview with panel Signed AgreementComplete orientation prior to start of semester
  • Complete Personality Questionnaire for matching 


  • Maintain 3.0 GPA
  • Must attend required group meetings each semester
  • 2 individual meetings with the director of student success/graduate assistant per semester
  • Complete Getting to Know You sheet at initial meeting
  • Maintain communication with mentees weekly (email, text, in-person meet up)
  • Time Log
  • Log minimum of 10 service hours during semester (includes social events, group meetings, etc.)
